I'd like a trail map that's actually usable. I don't need a map but some folks that haven't skied here forever do. I'd be nice to have a readable, accurate, to scale map that a new skier could use. I really like the Mad River contour color map that they put out. I'm actually embarassed at times trying to help someone find their way with the map that Gore has. I probably have sixty more ideas just give me a while to think on it. Have a nice summer or hike up and ski.

The telephone report that they record at 4:30 the previous day is useless. If they're going to do that, they should update it in the morning, especially after the ski patrol has done their morning check.
Not everyone has internet access up there -- or in their car when they're on the way. |
true. and they could easily correct it to boot ! the internet report is also done the day before. lame.
since Megatron is no longer here, i'll add his .02 worth and say the same goes for the whole conditions report from Emily's crystal ball.
maybe Megs will return next season. i kinda liked his snowmobile avatar. |
Anybody know what happened to Maegatron?? I used to ski with him years ago when I lived up there and always enjoyed his updates and concerns about Gore....

He's still around. he got all miffed on here awhile back. that left his under roos in a bunch and he vowed not to return. i had PM'ed him trying to get him to come back. maybe next season.
maybe Emily can see him in her Crystal Ball (as he used to call it!) he was fun.

i like to see the season pass also be honored for Gondi rides during the off season.
we went to the Harvest Festival last year and bought our season passes while there. After just laying out $1800 for the season passes we had in our hands, they wanted something in the area of $40 to ride the Gondi.
hehehe. i felt like i was being held up. they could have at least worn a ski mask.
even the bandits who hold up the trains each summer wear bandanas. |
great idea. I was thinking maybe they could--as an additional incentive--let folks who buy their pases prior to June 12 deadline or whatever, let them ride the gondi free on harvest weekend. It'd probably give some folks another reason to come up for the day and maybe spend some money on something else while they're there.

much talk is circulating about trying to help downtown North Creek Businesses attract more customers. the existing placards in the Gondola cabins are very well read. viturally every Gore skier sees/reads them over and over again. perhaps Gore could permit the local businesses to place advertising signs, akin to these placards, in the Gondola cabins. the skiers would then read them (over and over)and get informed on North Creek businesses. the many Gondola cabins should suffice to cover the local businesses. if more display area is needed, perhaps two signs, or a rotating posting would work. this would be no cost to Gore and should be no charge to the businesses as a good will jesture. as such, all would have a chance to advertise even if they are low on cash. down the road, it could be a source of revenue.
perhaps some on here who have the opportunity to spead this idea to the local people will be kind enough to pass it along for the good of others. (ADKskier take note?) i'll go ahead and send it to Mike Pratt, Auntie Em and the chamber of commerce today. if others could help(or have more ideas), please do. two heads(or many!) are better than one.
Ed Weibrecht said at the May ORDA that signs should to be erected and various efforts made to do what ever can be done to get the "word out". he refered to the interconnect and i believe the local businesses would be wise to do the same. very little signage existes about downtown North Creek even though there's lots of room for them. as a very regular Gore skier i knew very little about what NC businesses exist. if more signs existed, people would at least know what's down there. the Town itself should also do a much better job at informing people about their town through signage. people not local may not even know how far it is from the main road to NC and thus just blow it off. Signs are a relatively cheap way of communicating with customers.
if permission from land owners for signs is a problem, the signs in the Gondola cabins would side step it.
Why let SOOOOOOO many uninformed potential customers drive right by your town without telling them what you have to offer? They need to inject some Viagra into an advertising effort.

Clever idea, and I like it--to some extent.
I'm a fan of the "ADK history" lessons currently displayed in the cabins. Sure beats an ad for Chapstick staring me in the face, for example...
But having local businesses advertise sure could work out well--provided the advertising is regulated. Imagine if one of the local restaurants had one of their menus displayed in the cabin? Guaranteed it results in at least a handful of visits every single day. But an advertisement for "Bob's Septic System Repair" or whatever--no dice. Ads would need to immediately drive people to patronize NC storefronts.
