I heard a rumor yesterday that Hickory Hill will be open this year with both poma's running and snowmaking. They plan to replace poma 1 (the one at the bottom) with a chair to the top next season. Can anyone verify this rumor? Hickory has always been a favorite of mine at it would be great to be able to ski there again. Matt

the photo slide show is pretty cool. there's even a pic of an old guy on Tele skis. Cool

Sure hope this thing works out. I've never skied it, but there are many, many people who will be itching to return to Hickory. for their enjoyment, i hope it flourishes. i never met anyone who didn't have very fond memories of that mtn.

the history under the "mountain" tab is also interesting.

i'm thinkin i'll also get a midweek/nonholiday pass at West Mtn. this year ($200) as it's only 2 miles from my crib and has night skiing.

Anybody here gonna get a season pass to the Hick?

email I received

Fall Greetings Fellow Ski Friends,

I have wonderful, and exciting news regarding Hickory Ski Center!

Hickoryskicenter.com

We will be open for operation this winter season with a mountain manager, a trail groomer with all the attachments, repaired lifts, lodge repairs and various other changes. A lot of work has already been completed in preparation of opening, however, we are in need of YOUR assistance in making this long overdue event happen.

On Saturday, September 12th @ 9:00am we will be conducting our seasons first work day. This work day will be in exchange for a voucher for a daily lift ticket or a voucher towards your season pass. The work day will begin at 9:00 and end at 2:00.

You will need to come prepared with work clothes, and gloves, hiking shoes, long pants, and be sure to pack a lunch to enjoy while on the mountain.

If you are interested in offering your time to help rejuvenate and recreate this historic landmark of the Adirondacks, please email our mountain manager, Shawn Dempsey at sdempsey64@gmail.com

We are also looking for experienced as well as inexperienced ski patrollers, if interested, please contact Steve Hoover at hoovers@earthlink.net

Have a wonderful day and looking forward to seeing you at Hickory!
Martha

Season pass pricing is up...%540 for a pass, but you also get a 7-12 yo season pass...as I understand it.

Also up is the trail map.

$45 dollar day pass.

Sitting Bull, the adjacent property, is now called Hickory Cabins (.com). this could actually be a cool place to stay. cabins, pond, recreation hall, bar, restuarant? and i believe a old road/trail that directly connects to Hickory. I was up that way Quad riding today. fun.

This was a pretty sweet time today!

I got there around 2:45 (so I only got about an hours worth of drinking in), but I saw a lot of people I know, and I had a pretty good time. They were also offering $30 helicopter tours, and the line was constant. Hopefully they made some good money.

more info on Hickory's open house today.

the owner of West Mtn attended and mentioned an interest in a GORE/HICKORY/WEST MTN joint marketing to keep skiers here in New York instead of Vermont. GREAT IDEA!!!

For instance, a season pass good at all three would truly rock for us area locals. Gore/Face for the big mountain skiing, Hickory for the unique skiing experience and West Mtn for it's night skiing which vastly increases skiing time for people who work during the day mid week and couldn't possible make it to Gore,Face or Hickory except for on weekends. Thus one could ski anyday and not just weekends. Cha-ching! just watch your number of ski days pile up.

A FOUR MTN PASS WITH WIDELY VARIED TERRAIN AND OPPORTUNITIES TO SKI EVERYDAY!!! what's not to love?

Add night skiing at Hickory and 6 or so tubing passes and you'ld have a skier's/winter enthusiast's freegin dream package for this area.

" We'll take 3 Please! ".

*EDIT* I fixed the link.

Yo Matt, you didn't tell us anything about how it looks or how it's shaping up. Care to share?

Sounds like a great time.

I think idea of a multimountain pass has been raised before. I think it was here, but it may have been AZ.

My dream pass is the Gore/WF full with an extra $75 (?) tacked on to include both the Hick and BT.

Or maybe the Adk Blue Line special:

Gore
Whiteface
Hickory
Tupper
Oak
Titus
McCauley
West

What else? Royal...Snow Ridge?

I didn't really spend a lot of time walking up the trails and around the mountain like a lot of people did (or take a helicopter ride), so I can't really comment on how it's shaping up. The base lodge area looks pretty much the same as it did last time I was there for a beer festival.

According to their brochure, they want $540 for a season pass at Hickory. Seems a little steep. What's the Whiteface and Gore pass? $599?

So I don't think a mixed season pass is in the cards . . . A better Idea would be a frequent skier card that allows someone to sample all of the ADK mountains at a reduced rate. I can see a market for that kind of thing (particularly among the people who enjoy trying many different mountains over the course of the year).
