This week's Chronicle has a full page article on Hickory. Yo, Flatlanders, the Chronicle is a free newspaper that can be found at Stewart's, etc. Also has a cool weekly area activities list on the last pages. Lots of free stuff.

Yeahhh about that. Two of my friends went up and applied. The park was going to be ran by two juniors in high school, all the features made out of wood and PVC. My friends dad called to ask if they had proper insurance to make sure his son couldn't somehow get sued through this and turns out they don't have any coverage for terrain park insurance. That job went out the window.[/i]

Huh. didn't realize there was insurance of that nature, specificly for the workers, but it makes sense. Maybe next year. Wonder if Gore has it or if they just rely on the State's self insured status? Still, without specific language covering park workers from litigation there could be exposure. just sayin.

According to the Chronicle, Hickory will open the weekend of the December 19th. They are hoping for 45 operating days this year.

I hope we get a big dump and some of our hot shot skiers here will go rip Hickory and it's woods then report back to us. Get pics so the Harvanator is happy.

They had snowmobile races there this past weekend. The paper said only 50 or so spectators and a loss of thousands $. I'm gonna have to go at least once. Anybody else?

Hickory's Opening Day is Saturday Jan. 2, 2010 !

Lifts tickets are $45 whole day, $30 half day. first timers will need to also buy a thing called Season DAG card - $5. This Gizmo Gadget will function as your day lift ticket for the season (just add more days) and they will be scanned seemlessly as you walk thru the lift line. it can show you how many runs, total vert, days skied etc.

All this can also be bought online @ Hickory's online store.

Cheap Tickets!!!! Lift ticketes only $20 for Jan 2-3 for the Grand Opening.....

I think I might go. That's cheap enough for even Matt and I, especially me. Any unskied manmade snow they put down might be pretty nice. West Mtn was that way when it first opened this year. The first few days were all " over ankle deep, manmade powder " and No Ice. It was much better than what Gore has now. Hickory's surface lift will shield you from this weekend's high winds.

A very good weekend to check it out. Let's show some support!

***Just called Hickory... Hours are 8/9 to 4 something. The lift will be the T bar serving roughly six trails and the Snowshoe glade. Trails Cottontail, Upper and Lower Peabody, Honey Run and Lower Honey Run, Bunny Hop and probably Lower Beatnick and Lodge. This is what a Lady who answered the phone had to offer.

Conditions are Packed Powder. Open trails are covered well. Half of the open trails will be groomed and half will be Natural.

PLUS the Hickory Electronic DAG card will look like it's a Hickory Season Pass hanging from your jacket for the rest of this year........

Cool Yep. I'm Cool! I ski Hickory! Cool

LOL.

Alright. I went today. I'ld wait for snow before going again. Coverage was bad. Rocks, rocks, rocks. 2 runs and done. Basically one trail to slid down slowly and watch for bad spots. the other open trails off to the right of the T-bar required an up/over poling. The trail left looked veeery thin.

I could see this being a fun MTN with snow. The Lift departs right from the parking lot. Boot up. Hop on. Looks like most trails except for the very bottom are steeper than Lower Hawkeye and leaning more towards the headwall of Hawkeye.
