This could be a good sign too. NWS has just moved Northern Warren into the Storm Warning area with western daks:

http://forecast.weather.gov/showsigwx.php?warnzone=NYZ042&warncounty=NYC113&firewxzone=NYZ042&local_place1=North+River+NY&product1=Winter+Storm+Warning

And, reports from Kmart say that snow is falling about 1000 feet, and they are right in the green.

One more thing ... obviously what is falling is very wet. But unlike most normal "wet" storms, we aren't looking at a brutal cold front after this one passes. What is laying on the ground could be very skiable.

Hang in there people.

1:55pm Thursday. I just spoke with a friend. It is snowing in NC. There is another 6-8 inches since the snow switched back from rain in the morning. The temps are right at 33 degrees F. The snow is still real heavy.

I wouldn't say 6-8 today... only rode till 1145- Didn't do much on the bottom. Stayed up top lots of time in straightbrook glades.

Yesterday was PHENOMENAL. Too heavy to be enjoyed down below but up top it was SUPERB. Darkside was uber fun. Have some pics but time to head into work.

Harv' you'll have a good time this weekend- everybody was breaking up the thin crust we got from the ra*n. Got stuck in chati yesterafternoon waste deep snow in there. all glades are beautiful
go get it

What a weird, weird storm! Yesterday I got 12" with it absolutely puking snow for some time. Today, nothing but **** almost all day, including now.

HOWEVER, go a few miles to the Southwest/West, say 30-40 minutes, and it is absolutely puking snow right now! They've just shown live TV shots from several areas out that way on the local TV news. Deep, Deep freshies including large drifts! They are getting hammered with 2 feet more expected by tomorrow afternoon on top of yesterday's 2 feet. 3"-6" more by Saturday. Shocked Shocked Shocked

The ****/snow dividing line today was very pronounced on local radar, running straight up the Hudson then moving Westward late afternoon. Gore's gonna be real borderline/on the fence but they said the ****/snow divide should move Eastward overnight. Gore could get hammered if that happens with an easy 1 foot and probably 2 feet if the line holds.

If you were here, You would never think it is snowing so hard just a few minutes from my house. Those TV shots from there were awesome. Even the recently plowed road was knee deep and the TV Reporter waded into a snowdrift that was over hip deep! All the while huge clusters of snow were falling hard. This wet snow has at times been bunching up and falling in " clusters of 20 flakes " per say, and it just pukes snow. That is what's happening right now just ever so close to Gore. This pattern is suppose to continue thru Saturday. Say your prayers.

Interesting. Any word from people traveling from Hudson Valley or NJ/NYC today would be much appreciated. We are planning on heading out around 3-4pm this afternoon from NNJ. The wife is wavering a bit though based on the snow and road conditions. Hoping to get up there tonight. Couple of my buds are up there today. I will post an update when I get up there.

Roads are likely to be clear if it's not currently snowing. It's warm and as soon as it quits snowing the plowed roads have been going bare since it melts very quickly. Roads here, exit 18 are and have been bare. Where's ADKskier and Spongeworthy ?

No new snow here, no precip at all. Some filtered sunshine, strong wind gusts and 34*. puddles in the driveway. My thermometer has been up and down the last hour- as high as 38* and as low as 30*. Must be the wind bringing in other temps. Mostly it's read 34*.

I saw some snow reports, most for areas SW of me, but one was a " Garnet Hill " that received 16". Likely it was the Garnet Hill next to Gore. The storm and the winds are supposed to die down with tomorrow being calm with little snow accumulation.

A mere 20 miles or so made all the difference with this storm. Wouldn't be surprised if the weather for the rest of the season will resemble what has been occurring in the southern states so far this year. Big dumps, warm temps.

Gonna take the shortie to West mtn this afternoon. West says they will have ALL their trails open this weekend which is unusual. Never been able to ski ALL their trails before. The owner of West says he hopes to stay open into April.

Gore this weekend. Gonna watch for old dudes in funky green coats.

Hey don't forget about Hickory! They're claiming 3 ft of snow with the summit being open for the first time this year. Any hard core skiers now have their shot at Hickory's legendary Steeps and Glades. They have a cool shot on their web page of a guy who went of a launch and landed in neck deep snow!!! The some of their pics are older ones.

http://www.hickoryskicenter.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=frontpage&Itemid=54

Guys, if you've been itching to get some Hickory, THIS IS THE WEEKEND TO GO! Don't know if their summit will be open midweek.

And so Harv don't have to ask......Pics Please!

Hickory has rescheduled their Telemark Festival to March 6. I'm gonna call them today and see if I can get them to post on our Hickory thread.

Hickory..... It's Hard!!!

I LOVE Big Dumps. There is a shirt in a tshirt shop in LP with that quote. I gotta get me one. They also have another one I like - "I'm not a doctor but I'll take a peak"

Thanks for the update Snowballs. Good to know. We are going to try and get outta here around 4pm today.

If you see a 6'5 snowboarder with a funky jacket on and a gash on his right cheek give him the business. He got in a tangle with a tree in Utah and got the worst end of it.

Tell him he shouldn't go in the trees if he isn't an expert. Tell him Danzilla sent you Laughing

Hehehe.^^^^. Ok if i see "him" I'll give him the business. hehehe. I think you'll be very glad you came up, Zilla. Watch out for that tree! Don't know if you're aware that is how " Alpine skiing " got it's name. Hans was skiing one day when he hit a tree. This led Him to exclaim " OW! PINE! ". Later, this morphed into the familiar Alpine term. Bet ya'll didn't know that!

Any slight change in the elements and it may dump another 10-12" later tonight/tomorrow. Dark Grey skies now.

I was just talking to Harv. He said he intends to do Public Relations repair work while he's here this weekend....specificly addressing the problem with " Yellow plated Flatlanders " and the perceived notion that they disrespect the indigenous personal. He proposes a Saturday nooner at the Saddle Lodge where he will promptly settle all outstanding Cookie and Burger debts accumulated this season. This will go a long way to settling the issue and some appetites!!! Got Milk?

I also just called Hickory. Megan says they'll check out our board. Perhaps it will generate some business for them. 3 ft of snow on their summit.

Website:

"Over 10 inches of fresh powder fell overnight in upper elevations..."

Obviously the precise definition of "upper" is highly relevant.

Trees are all open so that's a good sign.
