Discussion: The latest data available on the developing Nor'easter is strongly suggesting a snowfall potential of historic proportions for the region with a widespread average accumulation expected of 20"-30" in areas immediately west and north of Albany. Storm track and intensity which will impact the amount, duration, and distance north a period of sleet will devleop in the region, remains in question. However, a storm track somewhat inland over central New England appears somewhat likely. This type of track would allow for at least a brief period of sleet to occur on Wednesday as far north and west as the Capital Region with sleet perhaps lasting a bit longer in areas east and south of Albany. This would act to slightly cut-down snow amounts in areas east and south of Albany. Also, keep in mind that should the storm on Wednesday track further east, the entire snowfall distribution depicted on this map will be shifted east and vice versa. The interaction of the flow around the storm with the local terrain will also impact snow amounts slightly in the immediate lee of the higher terrain in western New England, while simultaneously increasing snow amounts in along the east facing slopes of the Catskills and the Adirondacks. Despite the subtle variations, this will be an extreme meteorological event for the region with widepsread excessive snow amounts. Amounts in excess of 36" are possible in the higher elevations of the Catskills and the Adirondacks but can't be pinpointed until the storm begins and reports from WeatherNet 6 start coming in..
