for this forum, but does anyone know if there is any amount of skiable snow ( even boney-ish ) on either the Jackrabbit, or back to the dam from off of South Meadow Road?

Not sure but here's (http://www.lakeplacid.com/shared/whattodo/conditions-xc.cfm#backcountry) a good site for such things. It says they've got 30" at the Dam. Also, you can call the High Peaks Information Center at 518-523-3441 for trail conditions - especially for the truck road.
My guess? It's probably still skiable out to the dam from the loj or on the truck road from south meadow. Which part of the JR trail are you interested in? Placid to mckenzie pond is probably good. maybe. I really dunno.
