What a complete waste of taxpayers money!!! All in, this will likely cost taxpayers thousands (investigation, court costs, prison if convicted. And since he will likely be fired, cost to hire and train a replacement.). And for $5 of weed!!!??!!! The North Creek locals sure like to bitch about how expensive it is becoming to live there. Well, with government waste like this, no wonder!

Police: Gore ski shop employee sold marijuana to cop

JOHNSBURG -- An employee of the ski shop at Gore Mountain Ski Center was arrested Friday on a charge he sold marijuana to a police informant at the ski center, State Police said.

Adam D. Hyde, 31, of 391 Byrnes Road, North Creek was charged with fifth-degree criminal sale of marijuana, a misdemeanor, and the non-criminal violation of unlawful possession of marijuana. He has worked at the ski shop as a laborer/ski technician for 12 years, officials said.

State Police Investigator Steven Wetmore said Hyde sold a small amount of marijuana -- about $5 worth of the drug -- during the investigation.

Wetmore said Gore officials were not aware of the drug activity but cooperated with State Police during the investigation.

He said the investigation began with a tip about Hydes's activity, and the inquiry was continuing.

Gore is run by the state Olympic Regional Development Authority, but the ski shop is run by South Carolina-based private contractor Centerplate Inc. The company also is the concessionaire for the ORDA-run ski center at Whiteface Mountain.

It was unclear if Hyde remained employed by the company after his arrest. A call to Centerplate's office was not returned Friday afternoon.

Gore reopened Friday in light of recent snow. The center had been closed for a period of time.

Emily Stanton, a spokeswoman for the ski center, said a foot of snow fell on the mountain during the storm Wednesday and Thursday, and the mountain would be open Saturday and Sunday and possibly late next week as well.

She said she was not aware of the arrest, and Gore General Manager Mike Pratt was not available to discuss the case.

Hyde was released pending prosecution in Johnsburg Town Court. The charges he faces are punishable by up to 90 days in jail.

The investigation was headed by the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Queensbury, assisted by the State Police Narcotics Enforcement Team.
