View Full Version : Early Season Reality @ Gore

The truth is that Gore always opens with what is essentially 1 or 2 trails, regardless of how favorable snowmaking temperatures have been.

Wild Air will likely be open Thanksgiving weekend and it will be icy, crowded, rocky, and dangerous.

The best we can hope for is that Cloud and Hawkeye will be open by mid-December, which they usually are.

So stop your crying and wining because this is how it is every year. Don't get your hopes up for anything more becuase you will only be disappointed.

Sorry to sound negative, but as they say, "it is what it is."

If you want more trails, go to Vermont.

True. I am guilty of whining, and I see where you are coming from.

As for VT, I don't wanna, but you can get cheap gas there

That being said, you can still make a good day of it. (just don't be expecting to ski more than 2 trails).

Get there for first lift and ski until about 10:30 or until it gets too crowded. And then, because it won't likely bee too frigid, you can still get a nice long run (jogging that is, not ski run) in. So, good cross training.

Then enjoy a beer or three at the new bar in town.

Life could be far worse.

Bear and Gore look pretty white. Wonder what they will actually open this weekend?

Keep your fingers crossed that the r word won't hit this week. Unfortunately I won't be there for the opening. Hope to make it up in early December though.

I saw that on the website as well... It makes no sense- Ruby doesn't feed out to anywhere?

Lol take ruby to ski down to the adk triple, download from there then walk over to the gondi and take that back up.

bump. Because if you think Gore is going to open November 1 with 20 trails.....keep wishing

Lucky if 10 trails by the first weekend of December.

Dr Buzzkill is right. To me it doesn't make sense to change the order of business just because BRQ is new. Who thinks that BR will come online, or should come on line before....Sunway, Ruby Run, Topridge? (I forget what is the order?)

Should be interesting to see.

Also I'm curious if they are actually going to do any clearing this year in the BR glades.

Gore has scheduled to start snowmaking the weekend of the 15th, and plans to open T-day weekend as usual.I will look into the trail order this year, but I would have to believe it will be business as usual.
As far as 10 trails by 12/1, it is not happening this year, unless we get dumped on early :D

PS Harv:

They have done a good amount of clearing on the new glades, and where the hell did this thread come from!

10 trails by 12/6 could be a possibility. They have done Cloud from the top by that weekend in years past, but depends on weather conditions.

Sure....Upper Cloud, Mid Cloud, Somewhat Lower Cloud, End of Cloud.....That's four trails right there!

To be fair, though, Gore isn't nearly as bad with the Upper/Lower thing as most resorts are.

I don't think resorts necessary try to bump their trail counts by using upper/middle/lower. I would think it's for safety reasons. Say there is an accident on a trail, it's much easier to pinpoint where personnel need to be directed

Harvey44
10-23-2008, 07:24 AM
And it also makes sense in the case of a level change....Upper Darby to Lower Darby. Plus Upper is hardly ever open.

Hey Megaman...not sure what you mean about another thread?

I couldn't disagree more....I'm not trying to pick a fight with you, this is just a big pet peeve of mine. Nothing personal.

Remember when WF had something like 30 trails and Killington had 150? All of a sudden, WF was up to 70 trails.

Sounds better on the snow report to say that 60 out of 70 trails are open, versus 24 out of 30....

Regarding the safety point you raised, I hope ski patrol has a better way to pinpoint people than vague upper/lower designations on the trail map. And, anyway, they could always say "upper xxxxx" through the walkie talkie.

true, no intentions to fight were meant.. unless.

Yeah I don't think anyone likes being fooled by 'trail counts'

Maybe one of these day's i'll be able to efficiently understand acreage open. but i think only a few places post that #

Go away mud puddles
Come back frozen puddles

Peace

Use the rule of 3: Divide by 3 to get the "real" trail count.

While this is only really an issue early season... they could tell you...how many ways down the mountain. I think when Gore has 10 trails open it means 2 ways down.

Does it really matter? Is there anyone who posts here who doesn't know what they are getting when they see what is open?
