The Copperfield is in contract, and is looking to be open by President's Week! Durant's (the former Casey's), as well as Smith's Restaurant (under new management) are looking to be open for Thanksgiving weekend. If you have the time opening weekend, stop by and say hello to these new businesses.

Thanks C.

Cool to see the Joel is involved. I stayed at his place a few times and he seems like a standup guy.

Three cheers for the return of TRAPPERS!

:D

Trappers, Twister and Rumor was the Primary reason I purchased a vaca home at Gore. As my wife and I went to celebrate our new home in March this year, we went to the Copperfield. CLOSED? WHAT? THen I saw about 3 other closed places including the ski shop.....felt like I was just suckered into a home I no longer wanted. But its all good. My 3 yr old love the place. We drive 7 hours to get there. He talks about 'new york' every day.

I think you've bought smart Iski. IMO the return of Copperfields/Trappers is the beginning of good things. I posted this on FTO (http://www.firsttracksonline.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6815) in July, and I stick by it:

I think the spate of businesses going down in North Creek is somewhat coincidental. The guy who had tons of money to support the ski shop, which was marginal as a business, had lots of his money in real estate. He also owned Copperfields - the only "hotel" in town. I think he may have closed them for reasons somewhat unrelated to North Creek. I know that if they were really profitable they wouldn't be closed, but both business went on for years the way they were. The restaurant that went down, had an interesting business philosophy...basically..."we don't need local business." :!:

On the positive side there is money being spent to invest in main street. The Alpine motel, which was a scary place, has been completely redone and looks great. I think there will be an excellent restaurant in there as the new owner is the guy who owned Friends Lake Inn which has legendary food and wine. Braley and Noxon - the hardware store that has been in town for over 100 years, was bought by new owners and upgraded bigtime. There is also a new real estate office. I think the Creek will be doing ok in the next 5 years.

Yea, some closings but a lot of openings as well. Alpine motel, ski bowl cafe, the wine bar, the new bar in town that used to be the River (?) tavern.

Spent more money in the hardware store than I care to discuss. Seems like I am there 3 times a day when in town. I bet the new owner is happy.....they seem to be doing a good business.

If Copperfields gets too nice, I may loose my inlaws to the hotel when they visit....Boo hoooo.. Just kidding, their great.

I will say they are used to eating "better" food. Felt bad that I could not recommend a 'fancy' resturant to them on their last visit. They explored Black Mt Inn the day before we arrived.....SAID IT WAS THE BEST MEAL THEY HAVE HAD IN A LONG TIME> NOW Black Mt just purchased Caseys....YEAH. Town is growing in a depressed and depressing economy.
