Not sure if this has been mentioned or planned but why doesnt whiteface have some wind turbine installed to run the lifts and lodges. The amount of money saved will be astronomical and set ORDA up for big profits once the wind turbines have been payed for. I do know that the state and federal governments give you tax breaks and other incentives . I also know how the APA can be even though it is very green and helps to further protect the Adirondacks from pollution and other pollutants. It could also power some of wilmington if there is more left over and the power company would have to pay whiteface for the extra power that is sent back into the grid.

Believe me, I'm all for green technology, but there is a better chance of a flock of pigs flying over Whiteface then there is of a wind turbine ever being put up in the Adirondack Park.

Jiminy peak in mass has one and they have been able to lower lift prices because of it.

Yeah, I'm all for going green too, but I doubt that the APA would let something like this happen.

There was talk a couple of years ago about Barton Mines putting a turbine up on Gore Mt. I haven't heard about it in awhile, but found this old info.

I personally am mixed about turbines. I worry about the shell companies that fund them. Who will maintain them if the companies disappear? I remember a couple of old turbines in the Utica area that had stopped working and needed to be removed.
I also can't say I like the looks of them.
Think about how hard it is to get cell towers in the ADKs...

There are tons of new technologies out there, such as horizontal wind turbines http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/01/magwind_vertica.php or micro hydro http://apps1.eere.energy.gov/state_energy_program/project_brief_detail.cfm/pb_id=736 or boidiesel from ORDA's restaurants. There are so many alt's that could be implemented now. ORDA just needs to get on board.

Yes but this is green technology and energy something the APA is suppose to support not argue. :D

That is pretty interesting stuff... Thanks
