Haha, nice . . .

This is good, though . . . . Run a groomer over that crust, and it becomes nice eastern packed . . . (provided we don't go super super cold and ice everything up again).

MidnightCarving

yeah, im with you gents, i call it eastern basemaker. that thick wet icy snow will freeze up and stay all season... i'm willing to sacrifice tomorrow's icy conditions for the sake of the rest of the season. twister glades today were pretty fun actually, crust-buster conditions, not ideal, but it was fun no-less....

as my dad used to always say, "those western skiers think they're good skiing powder all the time... us skiers in the east are the REAL skiers, we know how to make fun of every kind of condition."

WEDS - FRI from NWS:

GIVEN THE RELATIVE FLIP-FLOPPING OF GUIDANCE FROM ONE RUN TO THE NEXT...IT MAY BE PRE-MATURE TO INSIST THAT WINTER STORM WATCHES WILL BE NEEDED FOR MUCH OF OUR AREA...BUT THE CHANCES APPEAR QUITE HIGH
RIGHT NOW. TOTAL GFS QPFS ARE AN INCH OR MORE ACROSS MOST OF THE SOUTHERN AND EASTERN ZONES. A SECOND LOW PRESSURE WAVE ALONG THE SOUTHERN FRONT COMBINES WITH THE FIRST ONE...OFF THE NC COAST THU
NGT...BRINGING THE POTENTIAL FOR MORE SNOW FRI AND FRI NGT...THOUGH THIS LOOKS LESS IMPRESSIVE AS THE SYSTEM WILL ALREADY BE MOVING ALONG.

I absolutely, positively agree. it's getting ridiculous. last friday night they posted "checkout the skiercross and halfpipe at the ski bowl ". So we went there Saturday and IT WAS FREEGIN CLOSED !!! NOOOOOOOOOBODY THERE!!! WHAT A JOKE!!! The kids were really disappointed. i mean really, why tell us to go there, when it's not even gonna be running. i'll bet 10 bucks it didn't open sunday either- but it was advertised. it's like they deliberately jerk us around. they post crap to make themselves look good and it turns out to be lies. we got the worst terrain park in all of New England.

The question is what are we gonna do about it ?

i sent the slackers a strong email today complaining about these issues. if you guys agree, then get writing. we need to show we have some balls and make phone calls to our elected officials. regardless of the cynics, politicans respond to angry constituents. get on the phone and get bitchin.

IF WE TAKE THEIR BS WITHOUT RAISING HELL, THEN WE DESERVE THE CRAP THEY SERVE US.

DO YOU SAY " THANK YOU SIR. MAY I HAVE ANOTHER. " ?

That's because it is written with the help of emily's crystal ball, and posted around 3:30 the day before!

And Snowballs, what time did you get to the ski bowl on saturday night? They are usually there till 9pm. The boarderscross thing was on sunday. Not bitchin', just wonderin'.

10 am Saturday. the web posting friday night said nothing about any specific time/day.........it just said check it out. if they're gonna post that way Em needs to lend out crystal balls to all so we can decipher their BS.

the sun is out and the wind seems low, so i'm off to the mtn. maybe i can catch one of these Gumps up there and can have a heart to heart talk with them.

Our next door neighbor in NC said they had at least a foot at 6pm yesterday. She said that it was still coming down, but starting to slow down a bit. How hard is it to update the snow report? They get the updated sheet every morning? I also don't understand the last couple weekends they have had the pipeline trail open on the sheet and online. I asked one of the north quad lifties about it and he said it was open last saturday for 1 1/2 hours. Why not open it up? I know its not a great trail, but I would still like to hit it one of these days.

The other updates to the website are ridiculous too. I think the skier/boardercross announcement was for the competition that was held the weekend before - the night of the AFC/NFC games. I know I saw an anouncement about checking that out at least 3-4 days AFTER it had already happened. What happened to the 45th anniversary celabration? That was posted on the website a few weeks ago and then it just disappeared. They were supposed to have fireworks and another torch light parade.

Gore is a great mountain but I just continue to think that they do things 75-80% of the way. Very frustrating.

Hope whoever gets out there today is loving it. I kept dreaming of sagamore powder last night. Too bad I'm not going to be up for a few weeks!

So if you didn't look at the report on the previuos day you would have no idea on how much snow they got. Absolutely a clueless person doing the reporting.

What happened up at the mtn today / last night? I skied yesterday (Sat) and thought the woods were great despite a week + of minimal new snow. Hardly hit any trails, so I don't really know how they were although what I was on seemed decent. But the big question is how much was the mtn affected by the warm up overnight and today? Was anyone in the woods today? Update on conditions please...

It was very special!

The top was closed for most of the day due to the yellow ice -- not even blue ice but that special shade of yellow you see when man made snow thaws and refreezes. It was warm at the bottom, but sub-freezing at the summit, and things got very, very bad. There was some rain on Saturday night too. The woods were no go. I was told by a member of the Patrol that the Caves (which were closed) were suitable for ice climbing.

The North Chair and Burnt Ridge were closed all day. Sagamore was fun on Saturday, but apparently got killed by the thaw. Everyone was skiing a couple runs on the bottom of the mountain (showcase, sleeping bear, etc), and as for trees, there was Otter slide.

Things were very bleak, and the weather does not look good for this week. Gore needs snow, or at least an opportunity to make some, very badly.

Long range from KALB:

CHANCE SNOW POPS BEGINNING WEDNESDAY ALL ZONES AND LASTING THROUGH THURSDAY...BUT BOTH GFS AND ECMWF BRING THE ZERO DEGREE LINE UP TO JUST SOUTH OF THE CAPITAL DISTRICT BY WED NGT...SO WE MUST FIGURE
THIS COULD WIND UP BEING ANOTHER WINTRY-MIXED EVENT...AT LEAST FOR THE SOUTHERN ZONES. TOO EARLY TO PLACE MUCH FAITH IN THIS. AFTER ALL...THE LAST 24 HOURS HAVE SEEN A BIG SWING IN THE TRACK OF THIS SYSTEM. WILL STICK WITH SNOW FOR NOW.

C'mon baby keep it comin' !!!!! It's lookin' good!!!!

From Accuweather:

An Alberta Clipper is forecast to dive into the northern Plains on Friday then spread its snow over the Midwest and Northeast this weekend.

The clipper will be closely monitored the next several days since the potential exists for a secondary area of low pressure to develop along its cold front. After taking shape across the Gulf Coast, that low could race up the Eastern Seaboard with substantial snow.

Even if the secondary storm fails to develop, a moderate snowfall seems likely for a populated area of the Midwest Friday into Saturday and is a possibility for the East Saturday into Sunday.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...

LOTS OF UNCERTAINTY REGARDING THE WEEKEND FORECAST ...AND THE INCONSISTENCIES ...MAKE THIS A DIFFICULT AND LOW CONFIDENCE FORECAST.

THE ECMWF SHOWS A DEEP TROUGH OVER THE EAST DEVELOPING A SURFACE LOW ACROSS THE SOUTH BY SATURDAY MORNING AND MOVING TO THE DELMARVA COAST BY SUNDAY MORNING. WITH PHASING BETWEEN THE THE NORTHERN AND SOUTHERN STREAMS OCCURRING...THIS WOULD CUT OFF THIS SYSTEM...SLOWING DOWN THE MOVEMENT OF THE STORM AND KEEPING IT HANGING AROUND THROUGH MONDAY.

THE IMPACT ON OUR WEATHER WOULD BE A PROLONGED PERIOD OF SNOW BEGINNING WITH A PERIOD OF MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOWFALL ON SATURDAY NIGHT...WITH SNOW OCCURRING FOR SUNDAY AND INTO MOST OF MONDAY AS WELL. THIS WOULD RESULT IN A HIGH IMPACT SNOWFALL ACROSS MUCH OF THE CWA.

HPC GUIDANCE. JUST ONE ISSUE THIS PERIOD...NEXT WEEK`S STORM...WHEN WILL IT BE...WHAT WILL IT BE...WILL IT EVEN BE?

THE GFS DEEPENS A LOW FROM CENTRAL CANADA AS IT SWINGS ACROSS SOUTHEAST CANADA TO NORTHERN MAINE THROUGH WEDNESDAY...WITH A SECONDARY LOW DEEPENING OFF THE CAROLINAS COAST.

THE ECMWF DOESN`T REALLY DEVELOP A CANADIAN LOW...BUT DEEPENS A LOW OFF THE CAROLINAS AS IT CHURNS UP THE COAST TO AFFECT OUR AREA LATER INTO THE WEEK INSTEAD. EITHER SCENARIO LENDS ITSELF TO A DELAYED
ARRIVAL OF PRECIP.

THE GFS OFFERS UP NO MORE THAN ABOUT 0.25 INCH QPFS TUESDAY NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY. THE ECMWF BRINGS IN NO SIGNIFICANT PRECIP UNTIL LATER WEDNESDAY...WITH MORE SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS SAVED FOR THE SOUTHEAST ZONES LATE IN THE WORK WEEK

...IT`S TOO EARLY TO PREDICT A WEATHER TYPE...BUT THE GFS SOLUTION WOULD OFFER UP A MIX OF MAINLY RAIN AND SNOW...WITH THE LATTER RESERVED MAINLY FOR THE NIGHTTIME PERIODS.

TEMPERATURES WILL BE AVERAGING JUST A FEW DEGREES BELOW NORMAL...WITH NO BIG DAILY SWINGS EXPECTED. MEX HIGHS ARE QUITE A BIT WARMER...BUT IS IT CONSIDERING THE TYPICALLY COOL LATE WINTER EASTERLY MARITIME FLOW???
