ever hear of a tree well ? i came across this yesterday and thought i'ld post it for everyone's safety benefit.

everyone should read it. esp those who are woods people, backcountry or out west skiers/knuckledraggers.

make sure you inform your kids. something like this happened to me on Gore's Twister trail once(not in trees) and i almost couldn't get out.

it's an interesting read.

also, any and ALL woods or backcountry, snowshoers, crosscountry skiers, hikers people should clip a whistle on the outside of their jacket. if you get immobilized and can't get out of the woods, you will soon go hoarse/ lose you voice from yelling for help. this also dehydrates and exhausts you. but you can blow on a whistle for a very long time. this is an idea i learned from the ADK club and thought it made good sense.

again, inform your kids, get them a whistle, while it's on your mind. they may not ski woods now, but when they get older you can bet their friends will take them there.

out in Tahoe they're so big you can ski around the inside like a half pipe if you hit it right and have enough speed. When I was at Vail wit SFL we were in the woods in waiste deep pow and I fell in one and he had to help me get out. They can kick your ass if you don't lookout.
