worth the trip? i'm thinking about making the trip from school tomorrow, ski sat and sun.... but i'm not convinced its worth my time/money.... did we get enough so the woods will hold up all weekend?

MC - I'm guessing no, but I'll let you know tonight if someone doesn't chime in first.

According to Accuweather, they're supposed to get 3 to 6 inches on Saturday night and another 1-3 on Sunday.

I'd say it's definitely worth the trip.

MC - From Schroon Lake it would surely be worth it. I have a feeling you are coming from farther than that.

The mountain was pretty good today. I'll put up some more tonight.

Summit was definitely the place to be. Not sure if you are a groomer or tree skier. Summit groomers were very good. Trees were good in spots.

If tomorrow is really crowded as it may well be, and there is no new snow...trees will be hammered by the end of the day.

My two cents.

Saturday will be ok, but Sunday should make it worth the trip. Gore will pick up at least 6 inches Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Finally...the NWS is coming around:

to what Accuweather has been calling:

If NWS thinks we'll get 6 inches...they'll post a winter weather advisory by 5am tomorrow.

If they think more than 7+" they'll post winter storm watch or warning.

By the way...I REALLY want to see how those two storms do that without dumping on us.

Nice pics!

I am a little less optimistic about Sunday. I looked at the NAM and I'm guess that Gore pics up 3 inches Saturday night into Sunday morning. The mountains south and west of Gore could see a bit more due to terrain enhancement.

Midnight...Did you ski today? I say you owe us a report. Was it worth it?

My report: Maybe an inch overnight, and enough wind to load it into certain spots, without blowing it away. It wasn't the pukefest going on over in the Greens, but I'll take it. Conditions this morning were significantly better than end of day yesterday. It's amazing what a few inches can do for early am surfaces.

Gondi went green again at 8:05. I was still booting up so I skipped breakfast.

The Bottom was WAY better than yesterday. Foxlair, Sunway, Fairview and Twister all had soft loose snow on them. I'm with Jimmer now...I LIKE Fairview. He's right... the snow can pile up from the wind.

Pine Knot and Uncas were getting snowmaking. I got first tracks on Chatiemac, Straightbrook Trees, and Double Barrel below the chair. And good stuff in Chatiemac Glade.

Today was a better for skiing than it was for picture taking. For some reason, half of all my photos were washed out. I can't explain it. The best photos of the day were the above runs and they were a bust.

I went into Tahawas trees after a quick lunch in the Saddle. Snow was much softer and quieter than yesterday. And it was getting pounded. I saw more skiers in one run today than I have all season. there must have been 15 skiers come through in direct succession.

The deadliest run of the day was the bump field on Lower Steilhang.

One thing...for the first time in my career...I actually zippered about 7 bumps in a row. Not my usual schmere..where I take one line of bumps and go OVER each bump. Actually taking a line in between two rows of bumps and slapping my skis on alternating bump backs.

A good day really.

Just a few pics here:

Hope you don't mind competition! Every powder hound in New England is going to be up there this weekend! At least the slopes will be constantly refreshed throughout the day.

It started snowing around midnight last night. Two inches fell overnight, and it snowed all day. As of now - 4pm - Gore's posting 7" - I'll use that as my number. Still snowing although the radar seems to be showing the end of it. NWS is still calling for more 2-4 more.

It was warmer this morning...in the 20s. I set off even earlier as the Gondi went live at 8:05 yesterday. Today it went even earlier at 7:50. Soft snow and no skiers anyway. Nobody showed up until 10.

My second Gondi run at 8:15...I was all alone in the cabin.

* * * *

Glades were great. Same as yesterday but better. Tahawas was nirvana.

looks like i made the wrong call. i hate it when that happens.

decided to save my cash thinking that the woods wouldnt be worth it.... thanks for all the reports though!

i'm just hoping that the gods hook me up with a birthday gift, all i want is about 12 inches, starting at 10pm friday march 6th, and ending about 10am march 7th, with brilliant sunshine after the snow stops.
