Mount snow's got it going on

Truth in Snow Reporting

Our snow reporting goal is simple, transparency. No one should ever second guess what a mountain reports as its conditions, weather, trail surface or anything else. When you pick up a snow report at Mount Snow it should be trusted as if you wrote it yourself.

This is why over the past two seasons we have drastically overhauled our snow reporting philosophy. It began with a fundamental change to report percentage open as opposed to trails. It’s pretty simple, an acre is an acre but one trail can certainly be a lot different than another. We continued this season by revamping our trail map to what we believe is a more accurate trail depiction. When you ski from the top of the mountain to the bottom it should be on one trail, not a collection of upper’s and lower’s. We have reduced our trail count from 102 to 80. As well we no longer mark tree terrain, our trees are always open to those whose ability permits them to ride it.

In short, you come to Mount Snow for a getaway, not a hassle. Enjoy our 588 acres of the best quality snow on the east coast and know that when we say we have two feet of fresh powder we mean it. On the flip side when we say that it’s raining two inches, we’ll see you in Cuzzins for a drink!

IMO, that's how every serious snow rider wants their mountain to deal with it.

This is a little OT but...

You may or may not know that I try to keep an annual snow total for Gore. It's not as easy as just writing it down. Sometimes the numbers are hard to figure out.

On Dec 5 Gore listed 1" of new snow. I saw 2" up at the cabin, but I went with the inch:

Now they are showing 12" for yesterday and 16 inches for the last seven days:

Am I missing some snow?

To be clear - I'm not implying an intent to deceive.

They may have received more snow last night. The Weather Channel's radar at the county level, showed the successive bands of rain that went thru fell as snow over Gore.

Light lake effect snow is falling now.
