We are thinking of making our first trip to Whiteface, driving from Michigan April 17 - 21. Will there be good skiing then? Where is a good close place to stay? Thanks

Ledge Rock is the closest: http://www.ledgerockatwhiteface.com/

You'll have your choice of motel/hotels at nice discounts that time of the year. I hope the weather cooperates.

if you're drivin' all that way, what's another 10 miles into Lake Placid where you'll have your choice of many hotels, restaurants, bars, etc? Just a thought. If you want closer than 10 miles, your choices are limited - and so is the nightlife/apres ski scene.

Thanks for the lodging info. Is there normally skiing at that time of the year?

Some years there is. They changed there snowmaking patterns this year so time will tell how the skiing will be.
On a side note how long of a drive is it out to Co.

we didnt get a huge snowfall this year. completely depends on how warm it gets and for how long. you'll have to just keep an eye on the weather. you wont have to worry about booking a room ahead of time. you will have your choice of hotels.

Driving to Co. is about 1,300 miles for us. Hate to make plane reservations, hotel car etc.. to go to Co. or Utah and not have skiing. Thought driving less than 10 hours to New York would be worth 3 or 4 days of skiing. Might just wait and see. Thanks to everyone for the input.

Whiteface doesnt have the base that they usually do due to a month of spring skiing in January. That being said, with a few blessings from the snow gods this month you might be skiing in late April. Last year I think I made it till the 10th or something and they opened up a little while longer, but it was definately skiing on slush by that point.
