Oktoberfest & Flaming Leaves Festival, presented by Citizens Bank, Highlight Fall Foliage Season in Whiteface/Lake Placid Region

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The New York Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) has announced that Whiteface, 10 miles from Lake Placid, will host its 15th Oktoberfest on Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the ski center.

Oktoberfest activities will include original vendors, arts and crafts, children’s rides including the popular hayride, Bavarian food, drink and entertainment.

Die Schlauberger will make its yearly trek to Whiteface and perform under the red tent outside the base lodge. Also performing will be the Lake Placid Bavarians, Ed Schenk on the accordion, Die Lustigen Almdudler, popular juggler Stephen Gratto and others.

The Cloudspin Lounge will feature Schachtelgebirger Musikanten (Scha-Musi).

The Cloudsplitter Gondola ride will bring visitors and residents alike to the summit of Little Whiteface for stunning views of the Adirondack foliage. The Whiteface Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway will also be in operation enabling visitors to journey to the top of the state’s fifth highest peak.

Oktoberfest will be held Saturday from 10 am - 6 pm and Sunday from 10 am - 5 pm. A complimentary shuttle service will be provided both days. Departure from the Olympic Center Box Office in Lake Placid takes place at 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm. The bus will depart Whiteface and return to Lake Placid at 2 pm, 4 pm and 5:30 pm.

The shuttle will also service Wilmington with stops at the Candyman, located on the corner of Routes 86 and 431, at 12 pm and 5:30 pm.

Daily admission for adults is $10 for the festival; $16 for the festival and a scenic gondola ride. The junior and senior price is $5 for the festival and $11 for both. Children six years of age and under are admitted free of charge.

ORDA continues the celebration of fall with the annual Flaming Leaves Festival, presented by Citizens Bank, at the MacKenzie-Intervale Ski Jumping Complex October 7-8. This Blues, Brews and BBQ-themed festival features a ski jumping competition, pony rides, face painting, vendors, live entertainment, a silent auction and more. This year boasts live blues bands with Round 1 of ski jumping beginning at 1 pm each day. Centerplate, ORDA’s concessionaire, will offer brews and great barbequed food throughout the day.

The festival runs from 10 am – 4 pm both days. Admission is $10 for adults, and $6 for juniors/seniors, and includes a chairlift ride and access to the Sky Deck atop the 120-meter ski jump tower. Children six and under are admitted free of charge.

Kodak Sites Passports will be honored for admission at either festival.
