Just heard a Willie Nelson cover of the Allman Brothers classic, Midnight Rider on the radio. What a graet tune! Post your favorite lyrics here. And I don't care if it's not strictly "skiing related". You're missing the point.

Well, Ive got to run to keep from hiding,
And Im bound to keep on riding.
And Ive got one more silver dollar,
But Im not gonna let them catch me, no,
Not gonna let em catch the midnight rider.

And I dont own the clothes Im wearing,
And the road goes on forever,
And Ive got one more silver dollar,
But Im not gonna let them catch me, no
Not gonna let em catch the midnight rider.

And Ive gone by the point of caring,
Some old bed Ill soon be sharing,
And Ive got one more silver dollar,

Repeat three times and fade
But Im not gonna let em catch me, no
Not gonna let them catch the midnight rider

You're annoying.

Here you go. i woulda posted "satan's bed" but hpd would have not been pleased. censoring fascist ( ):

"Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town"

i seem to recognize your face
haunting, familiar, yet i can't seem to place it
cannot find the candle of thought to light your name
lifetimes are catching up with me
all these changes taking place, i wish i'd seen the place
but no one's ever taken me
hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away...
hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away...
i swear i recognize your breath
memories like fingerprints are slowly raising
me, you wouldn't recall, for i'm not my former
it's hard when, you're stuck upon the shelf
i changed by not changing at all, small town predicts my fate
perhaps that's what no one wants to see
i just want to scream...hello...
my god its been so long, never dreamed you'd return
but now here you are, and here i am
hearts and thoughts they fade...away...
hearts and thoughts they fade...away...
hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away...
hearts and thoughts they fade...

"Never Met A Girl Like You Before"

I would wrap the world in clover
But you make me see my way
And I would die for you tomorrow
Would you come to me today?
Sing a song of sadness about the girl with the happy face
And dance upon the water with a ripple or a trace

Love is here any cloud in the sky
Would you be my flushing bride?
I don't think so
But I never met a girl like,
I never met a girl like,
I never met a girl like you before

I'd climb the highest mountain
To the sunrise from your face
Light a million candles
To flicker to your name
Scream aloud with vengeance
With the wind beneath my breath
Do you understand the madness?
Do you recognize the grace?

Love is here any cloud in the sky
Would you be my flushing bride?
I don't think so
But I never met a girl like
I never met a girl like
I never met a girl like
I never met a girl like you before,

Oh no I never met a girl like you before
Oh no I never met a girl like you before

I'd surely die and liro
Waiting for your every call
Will I ever see your sunshine?
When I'm done playing it all

A boy with no companion
Lost for baby blue
Words more then mean it
When they count for one like you

Love is here any cloud in the sky
Would you be my flushing bride?
I don't think so
But I never met a girl like
I never met a girl like
I never met a girl like
I never met a girl like you before,

Oh I never met a girl like
Never met a girl like
Never met a girl like you before

Oh no I never met a girl like you before
Oh no I never met a girl like you before
Oh no I never met a girl like you before

Truly any song by Flogging Molly could have been chosen. Check this band out if you haven't before. 8)

Snowfall by Reckless Kelly. This song was featured in Warren Miller's Storm a few years back.

A hundred and ten don't mean nothing to me.
I've seen fourty below when the rivers freeze.
But the ground here's bare and the skies are clear.
I'm packing my gear and I'm out of here. :D

When the snow falls down
I'll be on my way to a Western town.
When Winter rolls around
I'll be halfway home to a Mountain town.
Where the snow falls down.

I'm heading up North for some piece of mind.
I'm leaving my baby and my worries behind.
I'm going to find my freedom, brother you should too.
And if you don't do it now you'll be one year older when you do.

When the snow falls down
I'll be on my way to a Western town.
When Winter rolls around
I'll be halfway home to a Mountain town.
Where the snow falls down.

I like Flogging Molly but they've dropped off my radar. Might have to do some downloads. If you like FM you'd like The Pogues.

KT22 (you from Tahoe?) I gave that tune a listen. Little twangy for my tastes but it's a nice. Cool lyrics.

I usually use MusicMatch or i-tunes to grab stuff I already know about. But check out pandora internet radio (http://www.pandora.com/) to discover new stuff you might like. You plug in stuff you like and it uses all kinds of ways (common genres, common musicians, producers etc) to find and play for you other stuff that it calculates might appeal to you. Then you rate that stuff and it fine tunes your preferences and its choices. It really works too. I ended up hearin' tunes that I think are great but I hadn't heard in years (and had forgotten about) and have discovered new stuff. Give it a try.

Since I was born they couldn't hold me down
Another misfit kid, another burned-out town

Never played by the rules I never really cared
My nasty reputation takes me everywhere

I look and see it's not only me
So many others have stood where I stand
We are the young so raise your hands

They call us problem child
We spend our lives on trial
We walk an endless mile
We are the youth gone wild
We stand and we won't fall
We're the one and one for all
The writing's on the wall
We are the youth gone wild

Boss screamin' in my ear about who I'm supposed to be
Getcha a 3-piece Wall Street smile and son you'll look just like me

I said "Hey man, there's something that you oughta know.
I tell ya Park Avenue leads to Skid Row."

I look and see it's not only me
We're standin' tall ain't never a doubt
We are the young, so shout it out

They call us problem child
We spend our lives on trial
We walk an endless mile
We are the youth gone wild
We stand and we won't fall
We're the one and one for all
The writing's on the wall
We are the youth gone wild

They call us problem child
We spend our lives on trial
We walk an endless mile
We are the youth gone wild
We stand and we won't fall
We're the one and one for all
The writing's on the wall
We are the youth gone wild
We are the youth gone wild

Youll take my life but Ill take yours too
Youll fire you musket but Ill run you through
So when your waiting for the next attack
Youd better stand theres no turning back

The bugle sounds as the charge begins
But on this battlefield no one wins
The smell of arcrid smoke and horses breath
As you plunge into a certain death

The horse he sweats with fear we break to run
The mighty roar of the russian guns
And as we race towards the human wall
The screams of pain as my comrades fall

We hurdle bodies that lay on the ground
And the russians fire another round
We get so near yet so far away
We wont live to fight another day

We get so close near enough to fight
When a russian gets me in his sights
He pulls the trigger and I feel the blow
A burst of rounds take my horse below

And as I lay there gazing at the sky
My bodys numb and my throat is dry
And as I lay forgotten and alone
Without a tear I draw my parting groan

We can share the women, we can share the wine.
We can share what we got of yours cause we done shared all of mine.
Keep on rollin, just a mile to go;
Keep on rollin my old buddy, youre movin much too slow.

I just jumped the watchman, right outside the fence.
Took his rings, four bucks in change, aint that heaven sent?
Hurts my ears to listen, shannon, burns my eyes to see;
Cut down a man in cold blood, shannon, might as well been me.

We used to play for silver, now we play for life;
And ones for sport and ones for blood at the point of a knife.
And now the die is shaken, now the die must fall.
There aint a winner in the game, he dont go home with all.
Not with all.

Leavin texas, fourth day of july,
Sun so hot, the clouds so low, the eagles filled the sky.
Catch the detroit lightnin out of sante fe,
The great northern out of cheyenne, from sea to shining sea.

Gotta go to tulsa, first train we can ride.
Gotta settle one old score, one small point of pride.
There aint a place a man can hide, shannon will keep him from the sun
Aint a bed can give us rest now, you keep us on the run.

Jack straw from wichita cut his buddy down,
And dug for him a shallow grave and laid his body down.
Half a mile from tucson, by the morning light,
One man gone and another to go, my old buddy youre moving much too slow.

We can share the women, we can share the wine.[/b]

The Pogues! – It’s been way too long since I’ve listened to them. Those were the days when lyrics were more thoughtful and substantive - “One summer evening, drunk to hell I laid there nearly lifeless…”
No, I’m not from Tahoe. I lived for a time near Sacramento and was fortunate enough to be able to regularly ski Kirkwood, Sugarbowl and occasionally Squaw – hence the moniker.

Just two good old boys, never meanin' no harm...
Beats all you never saw, been in trouble with the law
Since the day they was born.

Straightenin' the curves, flattenin' the hills...
Someday the mountain might get 'em but the law never will.

Makin' their way, the only way they know how...
That's just a little bit more than the law will allow.

Just two good ol' boys, wouldn't change if they could,
Fightin' the system like two modern-day Robin Hoods...

It's all the same, only the names will change
Everyday it seems we're wasting away
Another place where the faces are so cold
I'd drive all night just to get back home

I'm a cowboy, on a steel horse I ride
I'm wanted dead or alive
I'm a cowboy
Wanted dead or alive

Sometimes I sleep, sometimes it's not for days
And the people I meet always go their separate ways
Sometimes you tell the day
By the bottle that you drink
And times when you're alone all you do is think

I walk these streets, a loaded six string on my back
I play for keeps, 'cause I might not make it back
I been everywhere, and I'm standing tall
I've seen a million faces an I've rocked them all

I'm a cowboy, on a steel horse I ride
I'm wanted dead or alive
I'm a cowboy, I got the night on my side
I'm wanted dead or alive
And I ride, dead or alive
I still drive, dead or alive
Dead or alive

When you're alone and life is making you lonely
You can always go - downtown.
When you've got worries all the noise and the hurry
Seems to help
I know - downtown.
Just listen to the music of the traffic in the city

Longer on the sidewalk where the neon signs are pretty

How can you lose?

The lights are much brighter there
you can forget all your troubles

Forget all your cares
so go - downtown

Things 'll be great when you're - downtown

No finer place for sure - downtown

Everything's waiting for you - downtown.

Don't hung around and let your problems surround you

There are movies shows - downtown.
Maybe you know some little places to go to where they never close -
downtown.
Just listen to the rhythm of a gentle bossa nova

You'll be dancing with 'em too before the night is over

happy again.
The lights are much brighter there

you can forget all your troubles
...

And you may find somebody kind to help and understand you

Someone who is just like you
and needs a gentle hand to guide them along.
So maybe I'll see you there
we can forget all your troubles

Forget all your cares
so go - downtown

Don't wait a minute more - downtown

don't wait a minute more - downtown
Everything is waiting for you -
downtown
downtown
downtown
downtown.
