why was white face mountain closed

We were at White Face Mountain on Oct. 10th and wanted to drive up the mountain and take the gondala ride but there was a gate across the road and the ticket office was closed. There were about 30 people there but we did not see any workers and was wondering why the area was closed. We were very disappointed about this.

because it closes after columbus day. peak fall season is over and there has been snow on the top by then. unfortunately, the gondola does too--to get ready for winter season. closes every season after columbus day. good to knwo for next time. sorry!
