Hiked up to the top of Whiteface today via the Marble Mt. trail. Tons of snow on top. Bushwhacked down to chair 6. At least 3 ft. of snow in the woods above Cloudspin. Blowing snow like crazy on Excelsior. Walked the trail down and there is at least 1 ft. of snow everywhere and crotch deep in many areas. Snow from Little Whiteface all the way down to Upper Valley just above NASTAR hut. The new bypass looks sweet and wide. Should help alot. As it looks Blazers Bluff doesn't exist. 5 guys from Clarkson skinned up and were trying to tele down. We made better time on our ass sliding down. Great day!!!!

what do you mean Blazer's Bluff doesnt exist?

i thought they already cut it and all...

i was looking forward to beating my friends there first

I didn't walk down lower skyward. I walked over to the base of chair 6 and looked up. I could see no signs that Blazers Bluff was cut in. Maybe it's there. Maybe someone else can confirm it was built.
Don't panic!!!!!

I didn't think that blazers bluff would be open this year.
Would love it to be however.

with a steep pitch and no permament snowmaking, it won't be open soon anyway

That's true...but they do have good snomaking right near it on skyward that they can shove over...( that is if they do this-- i don't know anything about grooming)

Not blowing any snow today.
Will i be able to ride top to bottom on 12/27? I'm a little concerned.

Unless there is freak of nature weather you have nothing to worry about. That's Xmas week, they want everything in great shape for that.

I know. I'm just sitting here watching it rain with an outside temperature of 61 degrees.

BELIEVE ME, I am more than sympathetic.

I was up there yesterday, and it was full sunshine, sixty degrees, and completely depressing.

Clearly there aren't enough sacrifices to the Snow Gods taking place east of the Mississippi.

But, on the bright side, the doplar is currently showing snow from west of Saranac over to the mountain, and temps more than low enough to support snowmaking.

Have faith!

I'll have faith. I'll just make a shrine out of my skis, my gf's skis, our new ski pants, my new ski jacket, new camelbak, and our new unused ski boots and i'll pray to that. If that doesn't work I'll seek out one of the local weatherman who preach about dodging bullets when instead of snow we get rain and 37 degrees and sacrifice them.

Now we're talkin', especially the weatherman part. Why waste a perfectly good virgin when you can take out a naysayer, or two.

It is depressing waiting for the weather to turn, but this is often the case in Nov. The gloom and rain are getting to me. :(

For all who care- I've decided to track the weather forecasters accuracy- I have a post on alpinezone about it but I'll repeat it here- I'm tracking the 10day forcasts and how they change for weather.com, nws, and accuweather and how close they come to the actual temperature. I'm doing this for wilmington and Hoboken.
Why? Cause i ticked off at weatherman.
Any guess what i'll conclude?

Short term right on, long range flawed.

Does it even require a study to be performed? We all know the outcome.

It's barely a study. It is more of a time kill device.

I'm hoping that the forecasted change in weather patterns - forcasted to start on fri/saturday bring some winds off of the lakes and sets off some nice adirondack mountain snow squalls.
We'll see...
